On 22 August, The Japan Platform (JPF) decided to launch emergency humanitarian aid "Response to South Asia Floods 2017 - Nepal, India, Bangladesh"
Since this July, large-scale floods and landslides in South Asia region have occurred due to heavy monsoon rains. As of August 21, there have been 614 fatalities over 3 countries, and 21.2 million people (0.3 million in Nepal, 17 million　in India and 3.9 million in Bangladesh) have been affected. 44 thousand people in Nepal, 700 thousand people in India have been displaced so far. There are potential concerns of further floods and landslides impacting India and Bangladesh due to massive water down-flow from higher mountainous area in Nepal.

JPF has continued to gather information from various sources to respond the disaster in the light of needs on the ground. However, it has decided that emergency assistance is necessary because there is high possibility of further damages. We will grant funds to three member NGOs to initiate relief projects accordingly.
